Preventing Separation Anxiety Post-Covid

During the current Covid 19 situation it is very easy to get into the habit of having your dog around you 24 hours a day. Although this is lovely and comforting for both human and dog it may lead to problems when the owner goes back to work. There is a noticable rise of dogs stressing about being on their own after Christmas and summer holidays etc. The dog cannot understand that having had your company all the time he is suddenly ‘abandoned’. To avoid this happening, have your dog spend time away from you (on your terms as in you leave him in kitchen behind child gate, or in a completely secure and safe garden) while you are are at home for the next week. Start off with short successful periods to begin with. If your dog is used to being away from you when you work then you shouldn’t have any trouble with doing this now.
